Historically, energy has been a regulated industry that has only allowed a few players in certain areas to provide services to residents and businesses. However, starting in the 1970’s and continuing through the 1990’s to today, the energy industry has become increasingly deregulated, allowing for more suppliers to enter the market, increase competition, and decrease the costs of energy to consumers.
