ERCOT reiterated its expectation of record breaking demand this summer, forecasting a peak of 72,756 MW which is about 1,600 MW more than the standing record set in August 2016.
While system conditions will be very tight under this level of demand, a
crucial 500 MW of supply has been added to the stack in the last two months, primarily due to the return of units from mothba ll status as new gas generation expected to come online. This increases the reserve margin for the summer to about 11%, a notable increase from the previous 9%.
