Salespeople have a demanding job. Even when a product supposedly “sells itself,” the person trying to make the sale has to do a lot of work before, during, and even after the sales process. And that’s just for one customer. If your energy broker business is thriving, you might be pushing yourself to keep up the sales numbers and keep growing. That’s all well and good, but if you push yourself too hard for too long, you can wind up burned out—without your customary energy and enthusiasm for the job. If you feel like this has happened to you, then there are some steps you can take to re-energize yourself and get back to peak selling form.

Take A Step Back<

The first thing you need to do is realize that you’re overdoing it. Whether that’s working long hours, or simply demanding too much from yourself, the first step is always taking a break. Not everyone has the time or means to take a relaxing vacation, so focus on taking time out of your day to do something relaxing and completely unrelated to work. However, this only works if you keep your mind off work, as well.

Taking a walk from your office to try a new place for lunch isn’t going to do you much good if you’re still running over the last sales call you made. Your step back should be mental and physical. You know if you’re spending more time at the office than you should be, maybe in an attempt to play catch-up because of your funk. Go home and get the rest you need, touch base with friends and family, and cut yourself loose from the office for a bit. You’ll feel the difference almost immediately.

Think It Through

Ask yourself why you feel like you don’t have the same energy. Make a list of the answers, and act on them. Feeling run down and low-energy is obviously bad for you, but it’s also going to be bad for your sales. No one wants to buy energy from the guy who looks like he doesn’t have any himself. Seriously, there’s no way things will get back to normal if you try to “push through” just using will-power.

Remember Your Success

Easing up on the constant selling cycle can be tough because you don’t want to lose what you’ve worked so hard for. So remember the success that you’ve already had. To make it this far, you had to have been doing something right. Those successful sales aren’t going to vanish, and neither is your sales pitch or your ability to close a deal.
